Hackathon Kick-off Event Details
Hello AI 4 Good Hackathon Participants,
Thank you for registering to take part in the AI for Good Hackathon.
With this email, we have provided some key highlighting information about the hackathon. We apologize for the lengthy email; please do ensure you review them.
Event kick-off:
The hackathon event will start on Friday, September 23, at 4 PM in Building 15, Room 1304. There will be a check-in for student participants. Please check in before entering the room.
JEA is providing the problems and datasets for the hackathon. There will be two problem cases available during the hackathon. One problem is about predicting solar farm power generation, and the second problem is utility vehicle route optimization. You are expected to pick one of the problems and work during the hackathon. Microsoft will provide hackathon participants access to the relevant technology stack to solve these problems.
During the event kick-off, the JEA team will provide an overview of the problems, data, and solution expectations; and the Microsoft team will provide details to access technology relevant to solving the problems. Thus, we recommend you arrive at building 15, room 1304, around 3:30 PM to give you enough time to check in and be seated in the room.
Team formation:
Hackathon participants are expected to form a team with a maximum of three members. You can work alone or with one or two other participants per your preference. After the event kick-off on September 23, participants who do not have a team will be provided an opportunity to discuss and form a team. Only those who provide team information would be allowed to present during the final presentations on Sunday afternoon.
If you have a team, you can submit your team information at:
https://forms.office.com/r/pktdWgMNFh
A team registration form will be distributed during the event kick-off. If you do not have a team before the kick-off, you will be able to provide team formation information on Friday evening.
In-person event:
Participants can start working on the hackathon problems at 5 PM, September 23. As this is an in-person hackathon, we encourage you to work on the hackathon problems from building 15. Third-floor lab rooms in building 15 would be open for hackathon participants. While you are welcome to spend the night at building 15, that is not a requirement. You may use the daytime to connect with your team and spend the evening and night in the comfort of your home. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and soft drinks would be provided to hackathon participants.
Final presentations and awards:
Hackathon teams must submit their solutions via Devpost by Sunday, September 25, at 10 AM. Teams will present their solution, insights, and interpretations from 1 PM to 3 PM on Sunday. Details of the presentation order will be shared either on Saturday evening or Sunday morning.
Judges will deliberate and announce the winners on Sunday at 3:30 PM. Each member in the first-place team will receive a $500 gift card, each second-place team member will receive a $250 gift card, and each third-place team member will receive a $125 gift card.
Dress code:
As this is a weekend event, we suggest wearing business casual on Friday and Sunday and casual clothes on Saturday. You will interact with representatives from FIS, Microsoft, JEA, and UNF in person and virtually. Therefore, do not wear any clothes others consider offensive anytime during the hackathon.
If you have any questions about the hackathon, please email Dr. Umapathy at k.umapathy@unf.edu.
Sincerely,
AI 4 Good Hackathon Organizers
